Writing

Eijas enjoys writing about music, art, food, culture, history and politics.  Even more so when any two of the aforementioned fields intersect.

Throughout his career, Eijas has  co-written a chapter on Malaysian history, reviewed Malaysian music and art, interviewed popstars, written for global tech companies and reported on geopolitics in Southeast Asia.

He has also undertaken various personal passion projects. When he was a student, he co-founded (along with Shazni Hamim), edited and wrote for the influential-yet-short lived student politics blog, Sudut Kiri. In 2018, he co-wrote a zine with art collective Gerimis about an Orang Asli village in Pahang.

Eijas started his professional writing career in 2017 when joined Time Out KL. At Time Out KL, he was responsible for the ‘Music and Nightlife’ and ‘Arts and Culture’ sections of the physical magazine and the website. Apart from that, he also regularly wrote about food and other lifestyle topics for the magzine.

In 2018, Eijas joined The ASEAN Post. There, he researched, analysed and wrote on issues surrounding Southeast Asia. Among the topics that he has covered there include militarism in the South China Sea, renewable energy in Southeast Asia and infrastructure spending in the region.
